Cerritos College Takes Out No. 4 Bakersfield College to Win Fourth Straight SoCal Team Dual title

SAN MARCOS, CALIFORNIA. – The Cerritos College wrestling team ranked No. 2 in the CCCAA, won their fourth straight Southern California Team Dual Title by winning a lopsided victory over Bakersfield College 43-3 and winning nine of the ten contested matches of the championship dual-meet.

On Saturday morning, the Falcons received a first-round bye that advanced them to the championship semifinal round to take on Rio Hondo College, a program they faced on Wednesday and came out victorious. This time around, the Cerritos College program recorded the first shutout of the season as they defeated the Road Runners 50-0.

No. 1 at 125, Jonathan Prata started the Falcons on the right path as he recorded the 17-5 major decision to stay undefeated on the year. Wins by Andres Gonzales and Isaiah Mora at 133 and 141 boost the score to 12-0. V’Ante Moore needed a late takedown in his match to win 9-8 at 149 and start a domino effect that saw six of the remaining matches being win by major decision, technical fall or fall. Recording falls for the Falcons were Larry Rodriguez (157), Cobe Hatcher (174), and Randy Arriaga at 285-pounds. At 197 pounds, freshman Hamzah Al-Saudi (Palisades HS) responded from his loss to Andy Voong on Wednesday by posting the 19-8 win. Hamzah is currently 2-1 versus Vong.

After routing the Road Runners, Cerritos College took on Bakersfield College Renegades. The Falcons made quick work of the Renegades as they recorded falls by Jonathan Prata (125), Cobe Hatcher (174), and Brian Samayao at 184-pounds. Andres Gonzales made it two straight for the Falcons as he picked up a 12-6 win at 133. V’Ante Moore recorded a one-point win, and Isaiah Mora dominated in a 10-3 victory. Larry Rodriguez shutout his foe at 157, and Hamzah Al-Saudi gave the Falcons the final cushion with an 8-5 win at 197.

The Falcons, who won the CCCAA State Team Dual Meet championship in 2016 over Fresno City College, will once again face the Rams for the title. It will take place on Sunday, November 24 at Cerritos College.
